Kord vs Siemens Teamcenter for document-set review

Teamcenter manages parts, BOMs, and CAD lifecycle. Kord is the review layer for engineering document sets like SLDs, datasheets, equipment lists, and interface definitions.

Teamcenter is for products you manufacture, the rockets and cars and machines defined by parts, BOMs, and configurations and built over and over on a line. If that’s you, Teamcenter’s right, and Kord isn’t going to replace it.

But an infrastructure project isn’t a product on a line. The FEED study for a plant, a terminal, a refinery is a set of documents (P&IDs, equipment specs, quality records, plot plans) that don’t map onto part numbers. Force them into a part-centric PLM and the review just leaks back out into PDF and email anyway.

If you’re working the FEED for a $300 million project, Teamcenter was never the fit. Kord works the way your engineers already do, instead of fighting them.

Typical Teamcenter workflow for documents

  • Attach PDFs or exports to item revisions
  • Route ECO through PLM approval gates
  • Reviewers open attachments without package-level diff
  • Related specs reviewed outside PLM in email or Bluebeam
  • Document-set consistency is tribal knowledge

Kord workflow

  • Edit files. Kord syncs and versions them automatically
  • See exactly what changed, with visual diffs across PDF, Excel, STEP, and more
  • AI cross-document consistency checks catch what humans miss
  • Group a single change across every document it touches - excel, word, pdf, etc.
  • Ship with full traceability, including a release snapshot and audit trail

Frequently asked questions

Is Kord a Teamcenter replacement?

No. Teamcenter should keep owning parts and BOMs. Kord is the review layer for the document deliverables PLM was never meant to review as a mixed-format package or iterate on at submittal speed.

We already have Teamcenter. Why add another tool?

Because your engineers already review submittals outside PLM - in SharePoint, in Bluebeam, in email. Kord gives that workflow version control, visual diffs, and an audit trail, instead of a pile of scattered exports.

Can Kord work alongside our PLM?

Yes - that's exactly where it's meant to sit, between file storage and PLM. Sync the native files, review as a package, release with traceability, then update the PLM records once the package is approved.
