Somebody revised the bracket. What landed in the folder is bracket-2.step, four megabytes of B-rep text, and the only diff Git or SharePoint can offer on it is that the bytes differ. Opening both in a CAD seat to play spot-the-difference assumes you have a CAD seat, and that it imports STEP without an argument.

What the comparison shows
What you get on screen once both files are in, and why each piece is there:
- Real 3D, in the browser. The STEP geometry is loaded and rendered client-side - rotate and inspect both revisions, no CAD software involved.
- The change, not the changelog. See the difference between Rev 1 and Rev 2 of the part itself, rather than trusting the transmittal's one-line summary of it.
- Reviewers without seats. The project manager and the customer can look at the comparison from a link, which is not true of anything that requires SolidWorks.
How to compare two STEP models

Is it free?
Yes. No account, no trial clock, no watermark. The tool exists because we build Kord, version control for engineering document sets, and a diff you can run in ten seconds explains the product faster than any brochure.
Does my model get uploaded?
Files are kept only as long as it takes to draw the comparison. Most formats render in your browser; Word and PowerPoint are converted to a preview by our servers in memory, and a file too big to ride a request travels through a short-lived upload that is deleted automatically. There is no account, so there is no history to attach anything to. The longer answer is at work.withkord.com/security.
What is the size limit?
25 MB per file. Larger Office files are routed through a short-lived upload behind the scenes, so a 20 MB workbook behaves the same as a 2 MB one.
We exchange STEP with vendors every revision. Can the history live somewhere?
Kord keeps version history on the model alongside the drawings and datasheets that describe it, with this comparison available between any two revisions and a review workflow before anything is issued.
When two files aren't the real problem
A one-off diff answers a one-off question.
